Billing - Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for a quick answer? Check out some of the most common answers to your billing questions below. Visit our Billing Educational Information section for more in-depth detail.

Q: Why do I owe this bill, I already paid my co-pay to my doctor?

A: Reliable Medical Supply supplies home medical equipment that falls under your durable medical equipment benefit of your insurance policy. This benefit pays a percentage of the charged amount so you will owe a percentage (Coinsurance), instead of a fixed amount which is a (co-pay). You may also have to satisfy a deductible before your insurance policy will pay any amount. Reliable Medical Supply will collect an estimated percentage at the time of service.

Q: Why am I getting another bill from Reliable Medical Supply when I paid my coinsurance at the time of service?

A: Reliable Medical Supply will not collect any unmet deductible that is defined in your policy. If the insurance applies a claim to your deductible you will receive a bill for that portion of your responsibility. We also collect an estimated amount based on the percentage your insurance carrier indicates is your responsibility.

Q: I was told this was a covered benefit and my doctor prescribed it for me, why do I have to pay for it?

A: Your doctor may prescribe an item or supply for you but your insurance policy and your insurance carrier are the ones who determine if it is a covered benefit or not. The insurance company will not guarantee payment until a claim is received and reviewed by their staff and the covered benefits under your insurance policy.

Q: Why do I have to rent this product, I thought my insurance company bought it?

A: Reliable Medical Supply does not decide who can purchase or who can rent equipment. This is decided either by your insurance carrier or by your individual policy. To understand your policy you should contact your insurance’s customer service. Their number is usually located on the back of your insurance card and they can assist you with the specifics of your insurance coverage.

Q: I received a letter from Reliable Medical Supply asking for information about my equipment? Why do I need to fill this out?

A: If you receive a letter requesting information from Reliable Medical Supply it is because your insurance policy or insurance carrier has dictated that you comply with their requirements before they will continue to pay or purchase your equipment for you. If you fail to comply with their requirements, your insurance carrier will default the liability to be your responsibility.

Q: What if I don’t want this equipment anymore and I don’t want to pay for it?

A: You may return a piece of equipment if you are renting it, but you must sign an Against Medical Advise (AMA) form releasing Reliable Medical Supply of any liability resulting in not complying you’re your doctors orders. All non-rental equipment is determined returnable on a case by case bases. You will be responsible for any co-pay and unmet deductible prior to the return of the equipment.
